Posting a new job opening for your company is exciting. After all, you get to hunt for top talent and bring someone new to your team. But, along with the excitement also comes an opportunity for growth. At Wavely, we’re excited about the fresh talent coming your way. Let’s look at some Do’s and Don’ts of job postings to ensure your success.
DO: A Solid Job Description
Your job description is the first thing candidates will see and read about your company. So, it needs to be on point if you want to find top talent. Generally, a solid job description includes:
Your job description should be intriguing, concise, and truthful. The goal of the description is to get people interested in working for your business and entice them to apply. Use this as an opportunity to sell candidates on why they should come work for your business.
DON’T Over Complicate Things
Ensure your application process is accessible, easy to navigate, and inclusive. How many times have you quit filling out a job application because it was too difficult to navigate? You don’t want to miss out on a great candidate because your application process is too complex or unclear.
Spend some time going through the actual job application process at your company. “Click through” all of the steps that the job seeker is also likely to encounter. Take the time to work out the kinks before posting your listing.
DO Sent a Message on Wavely Chat
There are several ways to make contact with prospective employees on the Wavely App. Wavely is a communication-based platform and we know that sending that first message is crucial to your job posting success.
That’s why, on every Talent Profile, you will see a Chat button on the Find Talent tab, it’s on the bottom right corner of their Talent Card and on their Talent Profile. Plus, you will also get “chats” that you can view just on the right side of your screen when you log into your Employer-Account. These chats are initiated by the Talent first to grab your attention. You can also chat with Talents on Wavely on the Dashboard and Find Talent pages by clicking the two arrows on the right side of the screen.
These messages are critical to your success so let’s look at a good example of a first chat:
Hi Shelly,
I hope this message finds you well! I’m reaching out to you to share some exciting, senior JavaScript developer opportunities that we have available in Knoxville.
Based on your years of experience with full stack development, you seem like a great candidate for these opportunities, and I’d love to tell you more about them and see if they align with your career aspirations.
Let’s schedule a quick call to discuss. What time works best for you?
Thanks, and looking forward to connecting with you.
Name/Title
DON’T Assume…Anything
Once that job posting is made, don’t assume the candidate will message you, be sure and prompt them to message you by adding, “Don’t be afraid to message us with any questions regarding this position.”
At Wavely, we’ve learned that so many candidates are concerned about protocol (many times outdated protocol) about messaging HR and employers. For so many years, that “Don’t call us, we’ll call you” mentality has led to missed connections. By adding this simple, friendly phrase to your job posting, you’ll increase the chances for chat messages!
DO Make Changes as Needed
When it comes to posting job openings, you want to know what did and didn’t work, right? Right. So to be able to make improvements the next time you need to post a job, track and analyze results from your job postings.
When analyzing results, take a look at whether the language on the job posting attracted the right candidates and if you used the right platforms to find candidates. If needed, do some tweaking for future job advertisements.
Make a real connection by using Wavely to chat with potential candidates.
